The fourth season of The Last Kingdom will be released on Sunday 26th April 2020 on Netflix. The highly anticipated return of Carnival Films’ hit historical drama will feature ten new episodes, available to stream on Netflix from 08:00AM GMT (12:00AM PDT).

Based on Bernard Cornwell’s best-selling novel series The Saxon Stories, the next installment of the bloodthirsty drama will see Alexander Dreymon reprise his role as Uhtred.

After the death of Alfred, the alliances between the kingdoms are fractured. The new King, Edward (Timothy Innes), is intent on isolating Wessex and strengthening his reinforcements against possible Dane incursions, while Lord Aethelred of Mercia (Toby Regbo) makes ambitious plans to establish himself as a rival to Wessex.

When Northumbria also faces hostility, Uhtred believes the timing is right to challenge his uncle Aelfric (Joseph Millson) to take back his ancestral home, Bebbanburg. But fate shifts in a different direction; news comes that Mercia is in turmoil, and Uhtred’s affection for Aethelflaed (Millie Brady) drives him back into the politics that threaten to break out into war.

And just as it seems peace can be found between the Saxons, a new and unprecedented Dane enemy takes them by surprise. Uhtred begins to realise that his destiny is tied to Alfred’s dream and he becomes determined to resolve Saxon struggles before the possibility of England slips from their grasp forever.

The lead writer is Martha Hillier, and the series is executive produced by Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant and Jessica Pope with Vicki Delow producing. The Last Kingdom is produced by Carnival Films and is distributed worldwide by NBCUniversal International Distribution.
